We admit, there’s nothing more satisfying than a tried and true classic cocktail. No staple is more storied, nor more requested than the beloved Old Fashioned. Perfect for cocktail purists with just a hint of a sweet tooth, the standard Old Fashioned combines rye whiskey or bourbon, sugar or simple syrup, ANGOSTURA® aromatic and orange bitters and is often garnished with an orange peel (and sometimes a cherry), skillfully mixed and served over ice in a rocks glass.

While there’s a time and place to stick to the status quo, we’ve found that exploring unconventional garnishes, spirit swaps and flavor pairings allows the Old Fashioned to evolve while still paying tribute to its roots. We’ve even seen people craft delicious low-ABV alternatives for this traditionally high-ABV cocktail. Still, knowing which flavors to infuse, which spirit to start with and how to create a stellar presentation can be a challenge, albeit a welcome one, for even the most seasoned mixologists. To demystify these new twists, we enlisted a collective of cocktail connoisseurs with a passion for serving up the unexpected and memorable. See below for their five unique takes on the classic that you can sling, stir and sip from the comfort of your own bar cart.

And remember, no matter how you opt to switch up your Old Fashioned, one essential ingredient always remains in the mix: ANGOSTURA® bitters. After all, no Old Fashioned is complete without them.
