Daniyel Jones’ passion for the House of Angostura has been shared globally since being crowned the 2013 Global Cocktail Challenge Champion. His journey with us has taken him around the world, from Russia to Chicago, sharing his knowledge and love for all things Angostura – a singular commonality expressed many in others. His pilgrimage to showcase the beauty of our products, especially Amaro di Angostura®, has been reflected in his storied, four year career with us.

“Passion fuels the pursuit of dreams.”

As a bartender searching for opportunities to grow in the industry, I saw the Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge (AGCC) as a platform to grow, learn and share my passion for the craft of bartending.

The AGCC is a global stage, one I followed to watch some of the top bartenders in the world showcase their creativity and love for Angostura. Being a part of the Finals felt like the Olympics of Bartending. It was not just my bar that I was representing, but my country as well. Winning the 2013 AGCC title was surreal. I was flooded with emotions of joy and excitement. Even as I reflect, those feelings still resonate with humility, gratitude and a strong reminder of where it all began; at the House of Angostura.

“If you want to learn more about a country, culture…their way of life. You need to visit their BARS.” – Mark Twain

As a current Brand Ambassador for the House of Angostura, my continued pilgrimage has allowed me to connect with bartenders from around the globe and experience the various drink cultures, as we all share our common love for Angostura. My travels have (so far) taken me to Russia, Germany, Italy, Spain, London, Greece, Bulgaria, Vienna, Romania, Latvia, Paris, Dubai, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, Panama, Peru, New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, New Orleans, Australia, Barbados, Antigua, St. Vincent & the Grenadines and St. Maarten. I am tremendously thankful for the opportunity presented by the House of Angostura, and elated that I pursued my passion and entered the competition.

One fond memory I hold dearly is the launch of Amaro Di Angostura®.

We launched Amaro Di Angostura® in January 2015 in the US. We did what was called the “Amaro Road Show”. This was an intimate approach whereby the North American Brand Ambassador David Delaney and I personally went door-to-door to have a drink of Amaro Di Angostura® with the bar owners, operators and bartenders. The love for Amaro Di Angostura® was expressed by the bartending community. Having a drink and listening to the many stories over cocktails was delightfully memorable.

One of my new favorite cocktail builds is the Amaro Espresso Swizzle.

The Amaro Espresso Swizzle was inspired by the Italian favorite Café Corretto, which combines Amaro and Espresso, and the popular Espresso Martini. Italians love Amaro Di Angostura’s rich spice orientation. Therefore, complimenting the spiced bouquet of the Amaro with a nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla falernum, a medium to full body espresso and a great quality coffee liqueur – all swizzled to satisfaction – creates an absolute pleaser for a breakfast/brunch cocktail.

Amaro Espresso Swizzle

60 ml Amaro Di Angostura®
20 ml Coffee Liqueur
20 ml Espresso
10 ml Falernum (nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla falernum)

Swizzle all ingredients well until glass is ice-cold and frosted. Pack glass with more crushed ice and garnish with freshly grated nutmeg, cinnamon stick and whole aniseed.
