Wanderlust: an irresistible desire to travel. It’s a feeling that developed in Elizabeth Mickiewicz several years ago and became strong enough to inspire one of her cocktails for the Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge. The cocktail incorporates ingredients from all over the world – each one telling a different story.
It all began with the Aperol Spritz. It’s a cocktail reminiscent of Elizabeth’s late Italian grandmother – a drink that became theirs, shared when they spent time in the kitchen. Elizabeth and her mother also shared a special bond. The two always dreamed of traveling to France. Before Elizabeth moved cross-country, they found themselves exploring the French countryside together. It was there Elizabeth encountered Pineau Des Charentes for the first time. 2014 brought Elizabeth to New Orleans as an apprentice for Tales of the Cocktail. During this time, she learned of the role Citric Acid can play in cocktails. In 2015 she won the Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge United States title. It happened just days before Amaro Di Angostura® – another prominent ingredient in Wanderlust – won the Spirited Award for “Best New Spirit or Cocktail Ingredient.” And, finally, the bitters? Elizabeth spent her childhood summers with family. Whether it was tending to the garden or running around with her little sister and dogs, she would every so often sneak off to the orange tree. Every time Elizabeth uses Angostura® Orange Bitters she is reminded of those summer days. Wanderlust holds deep meaning for Elizabeth, as it is a collection of her past that helped to shape her future.
- 2 oz Del Maguey Minero
- 1 oz Pineau des Charentes
- 0.7 oz Aperol
- 1 bar-spoon Amaro di Angostura®
- 2 dashes Angostura® orange bitters
- 5 drops Citric Acid Solution
- Expressed Orange Peel (discarded)
- Side Garnish – Homemade Aromatic Tea Bag
- Stir and strain into tea cup.
- Express with orange peel, then discard.
- Garnish with homemade aromatic tea bag.
