Bananas, chocolate and rum – oh my! One look at the ingredients that go into this cocktail and you can’t help but think of dessert. Jonathan Ross crafted his Trinitario Flip for the rum cocktail round of the Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge. Ross highlighted Angostura® 1919 Rum and Angostura® Aromatic Bitters among the flavors of banana and dark chocolate. Take one sip of this cocktail and you’ll know why Ross landed in the finals – it’s a drink sure to satisfy any sweet tooth.
So, what was the inspiration behind the cocktail? It came from the subconscious of his teenage days – memories of chocolate banana pancakes for breakfast and sneaking shots of Rum from his stepmother’s bar. Ross first saw an advertisement for the Angostura Global Cocktail Challenge in September 2015. He spent the night thinking about what he could create to highlight Rum and bitters, and the next day he was headed out on an adventure. A three hour trip all for the last bottle of banana liqueur in the province. Trial and error, but the drink came to be. And the name? He was inspired to call the cocktail Trinitario Flip after Trinitatio – a cacao bean founded in Trinidad. It’s a cocktail that holds great meaning to Ross, both due to his memories and the influence of Trinidad.

- 1.5 oz Banana Liqueur
- 0.5 oz Dark Cacao Cream
- 7 Dashes Angostura® Aromatic Bitters
- Garnish with dark chocolate.
